Testing Our Love

We're in Matthew 22:34-40 this week as we look at the Greatest Commandment, to love God and love others as ourselves. This is the origin of living the upward, inward, and outward life. God comes first, period. And then everything else in life comes out of the overflow of our love for him. But we don't have to worry, because he loved us first. Sex

Today we're starting a short series called Sex, Marriage, and Singleness in 1 Corinthians 6-7. Sex is for God's glory, so when we think about and practice sex God's way, it's good for us and glorifying to him! But when we think about it and practice it our own way, it's always bad for us and grieves God. Thankfully Jesus covers all our sin, including sexual sin, which means we can be free from guilt, shame, and the sins that might try to enslave us. Marriage

Serve Sacrificially

As we study Matthew 20:20-28, Jesus teaches us that if we want to BLESS our neighbors, we have to learn to serve them sacrificially. Serving will cost us something. To be the greatest, we must become the lowest. It's a classic Christian paradox that should convict us of what we believe true greatness really looks like. Jesus Above All

As we celebrate Easter, we're starting a new series in Colossians 1:15-23, called Jesus Above All! We often try to make the wrong things primary in our life. But Jesus is the image of the invisible God, and he's reconciled us to God by raising from the dead. If he rose from the dead, then it changes everything. Jesus The Restful

We studied Matthew 11:25-12:14 today to see that Jesus is the rest we need. Jesus argues that we're all weary and burdened by guilt. But if we'll simply come to him and "take his yoke upon us," we'll find rest for our souls. I Am Jonah

We're starting a study in the book of Jonah, looking at chapter 1! We'll see Jonah run from God's Word. He finds a boat willing to take him in the opposite direction of God's will, and he jumps in. The one thing he doesn't seem to want to obey God in is loving his enemies and sharing the good news of God's mercy with them. Unfortunately, we seem to be the same way many times. This week we're back in Acts 2:42-47, as well as John 13:34-35, to talk about groups! We're in a series on five growth practices to help us mature in our faith: gospel, gather, groups, give, and go. Groups get us into deeper community. It's great to meditate on the gospel, and to worship God in a larger gathering. But if we don't have deep community with other believers, we can't practically live out God's love in our lives. We need other believers in community. Groups is where it starts for us as a church. Spirit-Filled Going

We're concluding the Grow series by studying Acts 2:47 and Acts 1:1-8. The Spirit of God has come to us so that we can go to others. He Gave Talents

We're continuing the series, He Gave, by looking at our Talents, from Matthew 25:14-30. God gave talent to us so he could use it through us. We're continuing in Jonah 3 today, where we're confronted with the urgency and miracle of God saving his enemies. It's worth fighting for obedience to God's mission. Failing to take his message of hope and love to others is often a sin we excuse in our lives. But whether or not we live on mission is the best test for whether or not we really love God. Salvation Belongs To God

This week we're in Jonah 2, when Jonah is in the belly of the fish. He wrote a poem that encapsulates his transformation. He goes from the depths of despair to the heights of faith. And what does he see that invites that change? He sees that salvation belongs to God. He finally sees his own idolatry, repents, and responds to God's grace. We can do the same. Thanks for watching!

Love What God Loves

We're closing out our series in Jonah today by studying chapter 4. It's a culmination of all the themes we've seen so far, ending with a call to let God's compassion capture our hearts. Jonah's lack of compassion is contrasted with God's great compassion for lost sinners. God loves the world so much he made a way to save it.
