If you missed Christmas with Redemption or simply wanted to relive this magical night please join us as we worship the birth of our Savior and how Christ was sent to us so we could be sent to the world. We pray that you will join us in 2023 as we continue to live on mission for Christ and reach the city of Roanoke. Have a Merry Christmas!
Blessed For What?
Today we're starting a new series called Multiply by studying Psalm 67 together. We've been blessed by God with the gospel and material possessions. If we want to keep God's blessings, we have to learn to leverage them for his glory among the nations. We hope this message challenges and encourages you to live more like Jesus! Thanks for watching. See how members of Redemption Church want to multiply by clicking following the below link to Jason and Missy's video. https://youtu.be/JFe2ITYebZo
Testing Our Love
In week 4 of our Multiply series, we're looking at 2 Corinthians 8:1-15. Where we give our money is where we give our heart. Generosity is at the heart of the gospel itself, and it's a test for us to see how much we trust God, love others, and how mature we are in our belief that Jesus gave up the riches of heaven and became poor so that we could gain his eternal riches. Thanks for listening!
For Our City
Today we continue in our sermon series Multiply by studying Jeremiah 29. Pastor Michael brings a powerful message on reaching the city and being cultural leaders as followers of Christ. If we want to reach our city we must be God's vehicle of blessing for those in the city. We hope this message challenges and encourages you to seek the city! Thanks for watching.
For The World
We're continuing our Multiply series this week by studying Isaiah 2:2-5. God's presence is better than everything we chase after on our own. We think we can reach the mountaintop experience, but only God's presence can satisfy. His presence is with his people, so as we enter into his presence, we reflect that to others. Let's live on mission for him this week by bringing others up the mountain with us!
Deep Dependent Worship
Today we begin our Vision 2023 series in Psalms 42-43. We'll find that we all thirst for something. And our thirst is satisfied in God alone. Jesus poured himself out so that we could be filled with all the fullness of God. Thanks so much for watching. We hope this message challenges and encourages you to follow Jesus more deeply in 2023.
Love Others Compassionately
Today as we close out our Vision 2023 series in Matthew 9:35-38 where we look at how we love others compassionately. This passage parallels Luke 10:2 and shows us how Christ's compassion on the cross should be motivation for our compassion towards others. Our ultimate goal should be to love others like Jesus loved us. Thanks for watching!
Christmas Cheer
In week 5 of our Multiply series, we're looking at 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 to finish up our series. When we give, we should give with a cheerful heart, not out of compulsion, but because of our thankfulness to God. Jesus gave up everything for us when he came into the world, so we can give up everything for him. We hope this message encourages you in your generosity toward God's mission. Thanks for watching!
Redemption Church- Easter 2023
If you missed Easter at Redemption, here is the full worship experience. Thank you for watching!
Love Yourself Correctly
We continue our Vision 2023 series by looking at Ephesians 3:16-19 to learn to love ourselves correctly. We'll love ourselves correctly when we see ourselves as God sees us. Yes, we're broken sinners. But we're also valuable image-bearers whom God loves so much, that he sent his own Son to save. Be encouraged this week. Thanks for watching!
Love God Completely
We're in Matthew 22:34-40 this week as we look at the Greatest Commandment, to love God and love others as ourselves. This is the origin of living the upward, inward, and outward life. God comes first, period. And then everything else in life comes out of the overflow of our love for him. But we don't have to worry, because he loved us first. And out of his love for us, we can love and live for him. Thanks for watching!
Why Katie & Matt Want to Multiply
Matt and Katie are leaders at Redemption Church who want to see God change the people around them. When Matt got a job in Roanoke, he prayed to meet someone like him who he could share the gospel with and encourage, and he met Michael almost right away! God deserves the glory for this story in both families' lives. Are you ready to see this story reproduced over and over and over again at Redemption Church?
Begin With Prayer
Join us today as we start a new sermon series called BLESS. Our Executive Paster, Michael Nunn, talks about how prayer should be a deliberate and planned enounter with God in our daily walks. Prayer should always come first in our mission to do God's will and we cannot BLESS others without prayer coming first. Thanks for listening!
Weakness Is the Way
This week we welcome Tanner Hogue, pastor of Port City Church, a new church plant coming to Norfolk, VA this year for our annual Sending Sunday. We dive into 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 and look at how our weaknesses is the gap between what we posses and what is required as we pursue faithfulness. Thanks for watching!
Why Amy & Chris Want to Multiply
The Thompsons are pumped about our Multiply ministry lanes and they're excited to give. The mission has invested in them through transforming their lives and their family. Now they invest back in the mission because of the incredible joy and blessing they get when they see God changing others, as well.
Singleness
Today, we're finishing our series called Sex, Marriage, and Singleness. Singleness is a gift from God for the mission of God. It's easy to see it as something less than marriage in our culture today. But God says it's something to be valued so that those who are single can live more intentionally for God's mission. You're not, and never will be alone. So believe singleness is the gift God says it is and seek a change in your heart, rather than in your circumstances. We hope this message encourages and challenges you. Thanks for watching!
Sex
Today we're starting a short series called Sex, Marriage, and Singleness in 1 Corinthians 6-7. Sex is for God's glory, so when we think about and practice sex God's way, it's good for us and glorifying to him! But when we think about it and practice it our own way, it's always bad for us and grieves God. Thankfully Jesus covers all our sin, including sexual sin, which means we can be free from guilt, shame, and the sins that might try to enslave us. We hope this encourages and challenges you to look and live more like Jesus!
Listen With Intentionality
This is part 2, Listen With Intentionality, of our 5-part BLESS series. When we learn to listen to connect with the people in our lives, it will lead to lifechange. Jesus listened to us, so we can listen to others. We hope this message encourages and challenges you. Thanks for watching!
Marriage
This week we're in 1 Corinthians 7 to look at what Paul says about marriage. Marriage means mutual meekness. We have to be willing to make ourselves low and lift up our spouse so we can put the gospel on display. Jesus' meekness makes us right with God, and that gives us hope, even when we've been unfaithful in marriage, or unfaithful to God in some other way. We hope you're encouraged and challenged. Thanks for watching!
Eat with Purpose
We're in week 3 of our BLESS series, looking at how to Eat with Purpose from Matthew 9:9-13. Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners to celebrate, not their sin, but that God had made a way to deal with their sin. He used eating to bless and care for the people around him. If we want to BLESS our neighbors, we should eat with them! Thanks for watching.
Share Your Story
We're finishing up our BLESS series today with John 4:1-42. If we want to BLESS our neighbors, we must "Share Our Story" with them! Jesus has shared his story with us as a gift. His story is the gospel message that is the power of God to save those who believe (Romans 1:16). And when we believe Jesus' story, we'll share ours. We hope this message encourages you and challenges you to live on mission in your everyday life. Thanks for watching!
Residency Program
We're so pumped to roll out our ministry residency program at Redemption Church! This two-year program will enable us to train, equip, and send future ministry leaders into the world to lead a restless culture to the redeeming Savior!
Community and DNA Groups
This is why we do groups... because discipleship happens in community! You can't mature in your relationship with Jesus if you're not in authentic relationships with other believers. Make sure you check out our Community and DNA Groups and connect to community today!
Serve Sacrificially
As we study Matthew 20:20-28, Jesus teaches us that if we want to BLESS our neighbors, we have to learn to serve them sacrificially. Serving will cost us something. To be the greatest, we must become the lowest. It's a classic Christian paradox that should convict us of what we believe true greatness really looks like. Just like Jesus, it's laying down our lives for others. Thanks for watching to this week's message!
Jesus Above All
As we celebrate Easter, we're starting a new series in Colossians 1:15-23, called Jesus Above All! We often try to make the wrong things primary in our life. But Jesus is the image of the invisible God, and he's reconciled us to God by raising from the dead. If he rose from the dead, then it changes everything. He's above all rulers, and authorities, and powers... even death. So have we centered our lives on him? We need a Copernican Revolution of the soul! Thanks for watching.
Mature In Faith
Have you wondered what it means to be mature in your faith? Today in Colossians 1:24-2:15 we'll see that maturity is confidence in what Jesus has done, not in what you can do. And the first mark of maturity is baptism. Baptism is the outward symbol of the inward reality that we've been made new in Christ. We hope this message is encouraging! Thanks for watching.
Peace In the Family
We're continuing in Colossians 3:18-21 today, discussing Peace in the Family. Often times, we place unrealistic expectations on our family members. And it can lead to, what feels like, hell on earth, where everyone grows apart over time. But if we have peace with Jesus ourselves, it will lead to peace in our families. We'll never be perfect, but Jesus was perfect for us. Peace with Him empowers us and leads us to have peace in our family. Thanks for watching!
The New Self
Today we continue in our Jesus Above All series in Colossians. Jacob Thomas, one of our Shepherding Elder, brings us a message about how we set the gospel above everything else. We don't know what the future holds, take one step at a time in faith and surround yourself with people that will remind you of the gospel. God is gracious, wise, merciful, and loving; he wants us to stop setting our minds on our past and set it on our Savior. Our identity is found in Jesus. Thanks for watching.
Real or Fake?
This week we're continuing our series by studying Colossians 3:11-17. The Apostle Paul will say: Above all, put on love. Love is the distinguishing mark of a true Christian. Some people in our culture today who say they're Christians don't look anything like one. Christians are characterized by love above all, which is the foundation for compassion, kindness, gentleness, forgiveness, and humility. We hope this message challenges and encourages you. Thanks for watching!
Kingdom Friendships
As we finish up our Jesus Above All series in Colossians 4:7-18 today, we're studying what friendships within the church will look like. Oftentimes, we look at the end of a letter like Colossians and skip past the names (that can be hard to pronounce!). But Paul names these people for a very important reason; he'd learned how to build kingdom friendships. There are friends we send, friends who stay, friends who stray, and friends we salute. We hope this message encourages you! Thanks for watching!
Get Connected at Redemption
What is Starting Point? Starting Point is your starting point for connection! Starting Point begins with a Friday night dinner with our leaders where we will share the core values and vision of Redemption Church, and finishes on Sunday with an opportunity to go behind the scenes in a ministry of your choice. Whether you're eager to get plugged in or still just checking things out, Starting Point is the perfect next step for you!
God's Way Is Better
In Ruth 4, we learn that God's way is always the better way. He has weaved this incredible story together, a lineage of love and hope and salvation. And now we can be a part of that lineage through faith. Jesus is God's better way, and we have only to put our faith in him if we want to be a part of the family. We hope this message encourages and challenges you. Thanks for watching!
Jesus At Work
We're studying Colossians 3:22-4:6 today, talking about Jesus in the workplace. As Christians, we work to serve Jesus and his mission in the world. We can work to glorify God because our work matters. But we have to be careful. We shouldn't fall into thinking our work is meaningless on the one hand. And we shouldn't think that it's our source of identity on the other. We hope this message encourages and challenges you. Thanks for watching!
Jesus The Healer
We're excited to start our series "Who Is Jesus?" in Matthew, chapters 8-12. This week Matthew 8:1-17 shows us Jesus' authority over sickness. He heals people physically to point us to a greater eternal healing that awaits us when we put our faith in him. It shows us that our now is shaped by our forever. What we believe about eternity impacts our lives today. Thanks for watching!
Lean Into God's Love
We're excited to start studying the book of Ruth today by looking at Ruth 1. God's "hesed" is his unfailing love. And he works, even through our hardships, for our good and his glory. Let's learn to lean into his love for us, rather than leaving his love when things don't go our way. We hope this is an encouragement in your faith today. Thanks for watching!
Redemption Is Worth The Risk
We're in Ruth 3 this week, where we'll see that redemption is worth the risk. Ruth goes out on a limb, risking everything in pursuit of redemption. How much more is God's eternal redemption worth it for us? And once we trust in Jesus as our truer and greater Kinsman Redeemer, how can we not take risks for the redemption of others? We hope this message encourages and challenges you. Thanks for watching!
Jesus The Authority
This week we're studying Matthew 8:18-9:8 to see Jesus as the Authority over all things. Because his authority is absolute, following Jesus costs us everything. But the cost is worth it, because Jesus' authority leads to eternal life. We hope this is an encouragement and a challenge to follow Jesus with total abandon. Thanks for watching!
Equip 2023
We're excited to host two equip classes during the month of June! Cultivating a Healthy Marriage and Decision-making and the Will of God. Since we take a break from community groups for the summer, these equip opportunities will be a great resource to help you mature in your faith. Register on our website at redemptionroanoke.com/connect!
Jesus The Restful
We studied Matthew 11:25-12:14 today to see that Jesus is the rest we need. Jesus argues that we're all weary and burdened by guilt. But if we'll simply come to him and "take his yoke upon us," we'll find rest for our souls. No matter who you are or what you've done, if you come to him like an infant, and follow him as your master, he will give you rest. Thanks for watching!
Grow In The Gospel
Do you feel like you're growing in your faith and spiritual maturity? We're studying Acts 2:42-47 in this new message series called "Grow: The secret to spiritual maturity." Today we'll learn the secret! It's that we can never do anything to make God love us any more or any less than he already does in Christ. We must grow deeper into the gospel. Thanks for watching!
Jesus The Warrior
This week we're studying Matthew 10:16-39 to Jesus as a warrior. We see that Jesus tells it like it is, He has confidence in us, and He has a plan through His challenge to His disciples. He wants all of us, and our friends, to walk free from sin and the things that tie us up. We hope you see that you are today's disciples and you must pick up your cross and follow Him. Thanks for listening!
Jesus The Servant
This week as we close our series, Who Is Jesus?, we study Matthew 12:15-32 together. We'll see that forgiveness is costly, but reconciliation is worth it. When we fail to see our need, and fail to confess wrongdoing, there's no sin that God will forgive in our lives. But when we humble ourselves, confess our sins, and come to Jesus, there's no sin he won't forgive. Thanks for watching!
Jesus the Savior
This week we're studying Matthew 11:1-6 to see Jesus as the Savior. With guest speaker, Neeko Williams, from Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC, we'll learn that we can go to Jesus with our questions; he can handle them. Doubting in isolation will tear us down, but questions in community will build us up. And we'll learn that Jesus wants to transform us to be like him. Let's live the transformed life and report our new life to others. Thanks for watching!
Gather With Believers
This week we're back in Acts 2:42-47, as well as Hebrews 10:19-25, to discuss gathering. We started a series last week called "Grow: The Secret to Spiritual Maturity." And the secret is to grow deeper into God's love for us. But as a response, we want to gather with other believers. Gathering with believers is so important, that we can't grow more spiritually mature without it. We hope this challenges you to make the weekly gathering a normal rhythm in your life. Thanks for watching!
Give Generously
Join us this week as we look at Acts 2:44-45 and Luke 16:1-15 to talk about giving. We're in a series on five growth practices to help us mature in our faith: gospel, gather, groups, give, and go. Generosity is not something God wants from you, it’s something he wants for you. Our giving allows us to grow by trusting God with what He has given to us. He gave money to us, so he could use it through us. And by laying our finances as Jesus feet we show that he is first in our life. We hope this message challenges you to give back to the kingdom, whether through your local church or another kingdom driven organization. Thanks for watching!
I Am Jonah
We're starting a study in the book of Jonah, looking at chapter 1! We'll see Jonah run from God's Word. He finds a boat willing to take him in the opposite direction of God's will, and he jumps in. The one thing he doesn't seem to want to obey God in is loving his enemies and sharing the good news of God's mercy with them. Unfortunately, we seem to be the same way many times. We'll see this week that "we are Jonah." Thanks for watching!
Group For Community
This week we're back in Acts 2:42-47, as well as John 13:34-35, to talk about groups! We're in a series on five growth practices to help us mature in our faith: gospel, gather, groups, give, and go. Groups get us into deeper community. It's great to meditate on the gospel, and to worship God in a larger gathering. But if we don't have deep community with other believers, we can't practically live out God's love in our lives. We need other believers in community. Groups is where it starts for us as a church. We hope this message challenges and encourages you. Thanks for watching!
Spirit-Filled Going
We're concluding the Grow series by studying Acts 2:47 and Acts 1:1-8. The Spirit of God has come to us so that we can go to others. Too often, we try to live without the power of God's Spirit in our lives. We focus on unimportant things, when God has given us a mission to be his witnesses, to the ends of the earth. We hope you're challenged and encouraged by this message. Thanks for watching!
He Gave Talents
We're continuing the series, He Gave, by looking at our Talents, from Matthew 25:14-30. God gave talent to us so he could use it through us. Everything we have is his, for his purposes and his mission. He gifted each of us with unique abilities and strengths to contribute to his "bottom line," which is nothing less than making disciples from every tribe, language, and nation. The first 15 minutes or so is a special treat! We hear from two of our missionaries, Ben and Sara Ann Doster and how they're using their talents to reach the unreached peoples of the world. Thanks for watching!
Fight For Obedience
We're continuing in Jonah 3 today, where we're confronted with the urgency and miracle of God saving his enemies. It's worth fighting for obedience to God's mission. Failing to take his message of hope and love to others is often a sin we excuse in our lives. But whether or not we live on mission is the best test for whether or not we really love God. He loves the nations. If we love him, we'll love what he loves. Thanks for watching!
Salvation Belongs To God
This week we're in Jonah 2, when Jonah is in the belly of the fish. He wrote a poem that encapsulates his transformation. He goes from the depths of despair to the heights of faith. And what does he see that invites that change? He sees that salvation belongs to God. He finally sees his own idolatry, repents, and responds to God's grace. We can do the same. Thanks for watching!
Love What God Loves
We're closing out our series in Jonah today by studying chapter 4. It's a culmination of all the themes we've seen so far, ending with a call to let God's compassion capture our hearts. Jonah's lack of compassion is contrasted with God's great compassion for lost sinners. God loves the world so much he made a way to save it. We can have that same compassion for others if we let God's compassion capture our heart. Thanks for watching!
